Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create its own content. This workshop supports students with the knowledge and tools to use it as a tool to enhance their creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking—rather than relying on it to do the work for them. Through interactive scenarios and in-class engagement with GenAI applications, students will gain awareness of the potential negative uses of the technology, strategies, and skills to protect themselves from its misuse.
Topics covered:
- Artificial intelligence and Generative Artificial Intelligence
- Prompt engineering
- Algorithmic bias
- Mis-information
- Deep fakes
- Scams
- Sextortion

Digital Technologies
The Digital Thumbprint GenAI and Online Safety workshop supports the Digital Technologies curriculum by providing students with authentic learning challenges that foster curiosity, confidence, persistence, innovation, creativity, respect, and cooperation. The workshop offers insights into data representation (AC9TDI8K03), managing and analyzing data (AC9TDI8P01/ AC9TDI10P01), generating & designing (AC9TDI8P06/AC9TDI10P06), and collaborating and managing (AC9TDI10P11).
Health and Physical Education
The GenAI and Online Safety workshop deepens your students’ understanding of strategies to manage their identities, emotions, and responses to change. Examples include making healthy and safe choices (AC9HP8P08), and interacting with others (AC9HP10P04, AC9HP10P05 and AC9HP10P07).
General Capabilities
Our workshops provide strong links across elements of the General Capabilities, especially in relation to skills and knowledge required for online safety such as personal and social capability, and ICT capability. Students learn to manage their online behaviors and take responsibility towards others in the context of technology.
